Here's a dr rex fun project I started to mess with today. It contains one dr rex loop file (factory sound bank) combined with a custom sequence I put on the sequencer lane. Add some distortion, a crap load of automation on top of it... and yeah.. it might sound stupid, but heck, its just experimental. Enjoy!

Here's a little bit of an experminetal patch I have been working on since yesterday. The main idea is to change the EQ stage while it listens to the sound. Now you might be wondering, why would you do this right? First of all, audio signals that are high pitched, or play high octaves would usually go that rapid that it isn't there that much. It kind of becomes a constant change. Same goes with complex audio files (like wav files or rexes). But thats not the point. The lower the tone gets, the more it starts to tremble on a slow pace, so... eventually this would lead to basslines with a different type of resonating frequencies, where the source would be the instrument itself to trigger the changes. In this setup I have done a preset for you guys. The main idea is ...

Its been a couple of days last I posted something, sorry about that. But then again, I have been busy not making music (hah!). A couple of days ago I started an effect unit which I initially called the "pulverizer in reason 5". Simply put, I think that reason in its current state is already cabable of destroying sounds and making dubstep leads and those sorts of things without having the pulverizer addon which comes with Reason 6. Sure, the pulverizer in Reason 6 will make things a lot easier to set it all up, but the main concept and idea still remains the same. The idea is as followed: you take a source signal and you destroy the sound with distortion. Simply put. However, the key ingredient making it work lies with cutting edge filtering and using resonating ...

Here's another crazy idea i just started to work on. An Audio shuffler. And oh my.. is this easy :) The main idea that went through my head here was using delayed signals (audio) and use some form of 'automation' that would random go through each different delay. The only real tricky part lies within the routing of the Step Sequencer of Thor, and the way its being used to mute channels from the Re-mix mixer 14:2. The patch comes currently with 3 different controls: Rotary 1: Start point. Determines where the sound starts. All the way down means it will always start with the beginning of the audio, the higher you put this one, the later the sound will start thus resulting in a total different effect more or less. Rotary 2: Rate. How fast the audio shuffle ...

Its sunday afternoon, and today I have been fiddling around inside Ableton Live again. One of the things I kind of found in there is a "Threshold Gater", which leaves out a piece of audio for a period of time when a certain threshold is reached. Its kind of similar as you would do a very heavy ducking method with a compressor. At some extend. But the easiest way I found out to mimic this effect was throwing it against an fixed pattern (LFO/Matrix) and then use that cv signal to drop the volume pretty fast. Eventually I will try to do the whole Audio Ducking thing with using a different method, but for the time being this effect is rather nice as it fits in something I am working with. The next idea is to use a filtered out delay setup. In this combinator patch I ...

Here is a spin off of the AM Toy, but I felt the need to post this as an RNS File, so you kind of understand like how the routing works of an Effect processor unit. I have explained the workflow in the previous post, Am Toy The idea is to use comb delay, but trigger the comb filter delay different using the audio signal. So, eventually it should be more "in sync" with the audio track that is being processed and put a different delay on sounds which are loud and sounds which are soft. The additional idea I went for in this patch is add a Sensitivity knob (rotary 4). This is like a gated event, but... with a different amount value. The amount is being triggered by the rotary and the Spider CV mergers (somewhere in this patch lol). The effects (the buttons) are ...

Right, here goes another experimental thing. I have been playing around inside Ableton just a bit, and it gave me the idea to fiddle around with the combination of AM and Ring modulation combined. Initially I wantedto warp it, but eventually I felt that AM of the malstrom in combination of Ring modulation gives a better result. To finish the whole process I added some additional ear massage goodies to the whole patch. One of the main questions I did have been receiving however is: How do you use these Effect patches I have been posting in the last few day? The process goes as followed: - Create any instrument (nn-xt, subtractor, dr octro rex what ever) - Create a combinator - Connect the previous audio output to the audio input of the combinator - Load the effect ...

Right, I like things simple today, and as it may seem right now that the only thing I am kind of have been doing is making combinator patches. I am just going through this fase more or less since I am still thinking about an angle where to take this shit towards to since no one really gives a shit about it... neither do I. But nevertheless, the idea I am going for with this patch is to emulate a raw sound using warping sounds. And the only way I can think of by doing it is either take it back to the source (Ring modulation on the oscillator) or process it by audio (in this case I am talking Scream 4 and using the Warp setting). By inner connecting these paths and setting up a different sharpness in the chain, it will eventually result into a sound that does not come close ...

This mornings tinkering thingy... I had this weird idea this morning with toggeling mutes of channels. While I was doing this, I thought to myself, what if you do this not using mutes, but volume sliders instead and chain each independant channel into its on glitch effect. So, we are defining parellel glitch now... Here's how the whole thing works: - Rotary1 Rate This triggers how fast the volume changes take effect - Rotary2 Speed/Reverse The Speed is in conjunction with Button 1 (Repeater). While Reverse determines the amount of reverse that is being applied - Rotary3 Frequency Filter Frequency knob, also controls the amount of comb filtering. Comb filtering gets interesting with using resonance. Hence, rotary4: - Rotary4 Resonance The resonance ...

Seems like I am on a roll today. The following patch I am presenting is a linear method of glitch music, or glitchy type of sound processing. The reason why I am calling this "linear", since at some point in time the sound will turn into the same thing. Even while the pattern is pretty long and extend (since there are multiple lfos doing the whole random thing). But eventually the lfos will meet up again, resulting into a 'loop' sort of thing. However, to make things a bit more interesting you'll find a series of controls that may be worth to twist or push. I will name them for you: - Rotary 1 Delay Sens This knob controls the sensitivity or the amount of feedback produced by the delays. The more this knob is opened up, the longer certain ...

Auto Preview Trig Dr Rex
Now we all know that Dr Rex cannot toggle preview knobs using the midi keyboard and all that, since the system just normally does not allow that to happen. As of recently (read: peff refill cyclone) a different method came to life namely triggering a thor, and using the D1 key to retrigger the complete loop. It works like a charm. Soundscapes in Reason 5

Reverse Filtering Patch
A simple technique, yet I rarely use it. The idea is to take a 'pad' and use twice a similar setup. In this case, I am using 2 different malstroms for this purpose. Time for something more synthetic this time. This morning I kind of started with a rhythmic pulse on the Scream 4 unit, using an LFO connected to the resolution of the digital effect. Which kind set the trend for this patch. I removed the scream 4 and added some crazyness in the backpanel routing this time. Usually I would use a bunch of pattern matrixes to do this, but I find thor and its ...

Granualizer and time stretcher
Right, here goes... A new section, a new post. And let this be the first one to start with. A Granualizer and time stretcher. These are both 'faked', but it gets close to what it would be like. Time stretching is based on changing the tempo without artifacts. It could be done somewhat, however timing the part is probably the hardest part. Since the timing I am doing with this one is done with ...

Meet mr Super Redrum
Say hi to my new friend. I call it "the super redrum". One might ask himself like why would you do this? why not do it differently? why go through all this trouble to make a setup like this? Because I am nuts, I am not sane and have this written down in black and white that I am not normal. So... I came up with this crazy idea. The synopsis or plot, or thought that went through my ...

House reDrum Template
Here's a little house kit drum template I have been working on today. It features a really heavy thumb down kick based on the Boomer bassdrum (yet slightly different pitched downwards). Combine it with 3 support kicks (which could also be adjusted by using the tone settings of channel 1,2 and 10!)Last part, I added 3 snares and 2 highhatsOnly pattern A1 till A8 is programmed, and I didn't add ...

Self Vibrating
Here's a little bit of an experminetal patch I have been working on since yesterday. The main idea is to change the EQ stage while it listens to the sound. Now you might be wondering, why would you do this right? First of all, audio signals that are high pitched, or play high octaves would usually go that rapid that it isn't there that much. It kind of becomes a constant change. Same ...

Devastator Combinator patches
Its been a couple of days last I posted something, sorry about that. But then again, I have been busy not making music (hah!). A couple of days ago I started an effect unit which I initially called the "pulverizer in reason 5". Simply put, I think that reason in its current state is already cabable of destroying sounds and making dubstep leads and those sorts of things without ...

Audio Shuffler
Here's another crazy idea i just started to work on. An Audio shuffler. And oh my.. is this easy :) The main idea that went through my head here was using delayed signals (audio) and use some form of 'automation' that would random go through each different delay. The only real tricky part lies within the routing of the Step Sequencer of Thor, and the way its being used to mute ...

Gater Filter Combinator Effect patch
Its sunday afternoon, and today I have been fiddling around inside Ableton Live again. One of the things I kind of found in there is a "Threshold Gater", which leaves out a piece of audio for a period of time when a certain threshold is reached. Its kind of similar as you would do a very heavy ducking method with a compressor. At some extend. But the easiest way I found out to ...

Comb Toy
Here is a spin off of the AM Toy, but I felt the need to post this as an RNS File, so you kind of understand like how the routing works of an Effect processor unit. I have explained the workflow in the previous post, Am Toy The idea is to use comb delay, but trigger the comb filter delay different using the audio signal. So, eventually it should be more "in sync" with the audio ...

AM Toy
Right, here goes another experimental thing. I have been playing around inside Ableton just a bit, and it gave me the idea to fiddle around with the combination of AM and Ring modulation combined. Initially I wantedto warp it, but eventually I felt that AM of the malstrom in combination of Ring modulation gives a better result. To finish the whole process I added some additional ear ...

Dubstep Lead Synth
Right, I like things simple today, and as it may seem right now that the only thing I am kind of have been doing is making combinator patches. I am just going through this fase more or less since I am still thinking about an angle where to take this shit towards to since no one really gives a shit about it... neither do I. But nevertheless, the idea I am going for with this patch is ...

Reverse Glitcher
This mornings tinkering thingy... I had this weird idea this morning with toggeling mutes of channels. While I was doing this, I thought to myself, what if you do this not using mutes, but volume sliders instead and chain each independant channel into its on glitch effect. So, we are defining parellel glitch now... Here's how the whole thing works: - Rotary1 Rate This triggers ...

Auto Glitcher
Seems like I am on a roll today. The following patch I am presenting is a linear method of glitch music, or glitchy type of sound processing. The reason why I am calling this "linear", since at some point in time the sound will turn into the same thing. Even while the pattern is pretty long and extend (since there are multiple lfos doing the whole random thing). But ...

Stereolizer
What defines a stereo sound? or even better yet, what defines an effective stereo sound? From my own experience I think it is the best to use both stereo and mono at the same time. Thus, the mono signal gets more presence. At the same the mono channels also act like a bridge over left and right. So what is mono? A mono signal is a sound signal that would sound exactly the same over ...

Parallel Filters Reason combinator patch
Here's a single combinator patch for Reason 4 and Reason 5 I am sharing today on which I have been working on earlier today (watch the livestream channel, theres a demo there). The idea is using a gated method that in combination of using parallel filtering. In this combinator you will find 3 different filter types which are parallel routed: - LP12 Filter (split different over left ...
